Wilec manufactures high quality oxygen-free copper rod (Cu-OFC) by employing the well-known upcast rod casting process. The rod is produced from pure grade copper cathode. Regular Spectrographic analysis and mechanical testing in our on-site laboratory ensures a consistent high purity grade copper rod. The rod is continually cast in a vertical upward configuration through a water-cooled graphite die, to industry standard diameters. The rod is then coiled, palletized and packaged to facilitate ease of use and handling, and typical coil masses range between 3 and 4 tonnes.
Wilec has embarked on an intensive modernisation and recapitalisation program. The program has been rolled out in both the Olifantsfontein and City Deep manufacturing facilities. The state of the art machines that have been installed have already produced improved quality, control and efficiencies.
In addition to this, product diversification and market substitution have also been factored into the procurement and planning of the equipment purchased.
Extensive training has been rolled out to our manufacturing teams such that both man and machine are equipped to deliver products that exceed specification and customer demands.
